The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Boston Professionals, is a 501(C)(3) non-profit dedicated to the academic & professional success of Black engineering students and professionals. Founded in 1988 as the Boston “Alumni Extension”, NSBE Boston offers professional development & career advancement opportunities to its members. With a growing membership of Black STEM professionals, NSBE Boston supports NSBE college chapters and impacts (K-12) students annually through our “Be 1 of 10,000 Black Engineers” youth STEM campaign, aimed at increasing access to resources & diversity in STEM.

NSBE Boston helps to position its technical professional members for success through certification workshops, professional development conferences, cyber-mentoring and many other vital programs.

Local Programs

Professional Development Seminars – Throughout the year, we host several Personal & Professional Development Seminars. Each seminar focuses on either a specific discipline of engineering or an area of personal development. Some of the seminar topics listed for this year are Financial Planning, Project Management, and Community Development.

College Initiative – Members of our Student Outreach Committee act as mentors to undergraduate students at New England area colleges that have NSBE student chapters. The Student Outreach Committee members participate in career panel discussions, judge engineering contests, and provide a presence at the schools to be positive role models for these future Black professionals.

NSBE Junior / Pre-College & Youth STEM Initiative (PCI) – The Pre-College Initiative program was designed to increase the level of consciousness of African-American youth, encourage their attendance of college, and their pursuit of both studies and careers in Engineering, Science, and Mathematics. Our goal is to become an important force in the development of our future Engineers. We aim to support the NSBE Jr members with their National Engineers Week Career Panel, college planning, etc.

Networking & Social Activities – In addition to the many professional and community service opportunities, we plan several events with entertainment and physical fitness in mind. Recent events have included a monthly happy hour, bowling, basketball tournaments, fantasy football leagues, flag football, paintball, and karaoke night.

Inspire STEM Scholarship & Awards Gala – Annual event recognizing NSBE student scholars andlocal business & community leaders for their many accomplishments and contributions to increasing diversity & inclusion in STEM. This event is NSBE Boston’s largest annual fundraiser.
