EWB-BPC Awarded Freeman Fund Grant from BSCES

EWB-BPC was awarded a grant from the John R. Freeman Fund by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers on July 20th, 2020. “John R. Freeman was a preeminent hydraulics engineer in Boston and a member of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers for half a century. In 1925, recognizing ‘the occasional helpfulness of a small fund to a young investigator full of the zeal of youth but limited in resources for investigation’, he gave the Society $25,000 to establish a fund to be devoted to the encouragement of young engineers in various ways, including grants for research, or aid in the publication of meritorious books and papers, or traveling scholarships, or a prize for a particularly worthy paper.” In return, recipients give a free lecture, held in April each year. Due to the pandemic, EWB-BPC gave a webinar to BSCES members on our prior work in Tanzania on July 31, 2020.

This grant helped our Chapter to proceed with the remote implementation of the Chamhawi borehole in September 2020. Many thanks to BSCES for providing this assistance and supporting our projects!
